An ode to Little Miss Messy. . .

by Brooke on March 26, 2007

. . .aka, our Annie!! Have you ever read those Mr. Men and Little Miss books?? We had a bunch of them when I was little and they were so funny. Mr. Funny and Little Miss Chatterbox and Mr. Tickle and Little Miss Bossy. Anyway, since Annie likes to makes lots of little messies I gave her this nickname–Little Miss Messy. There’s only a book for Mr. Messy so I added a bow and eyelashes and so now Mr. Messy has a twin sister: So today my post is all about our baby girl who is growing into a “real” girl!! Little Miss Annie Jayne is 16 months old now (as of March 14, 2007). With Brandon, I was pretty diligent in writing little summaries of his life nearly every month, but with Annie I’ve been terrible!! I’m hoping with this blog I can better record what’s happening, especially with my kids. So here is a bunch of stuff I want to remember about what Annie is up to at 16 months. I LOVE these things (yes, even the tantrums and drama that drives me insane sometimes!).

    • Sweet and sassy–Annie definitely has some spunk and she knows what she wants! And she wants it NOW!

    • She always has her finger stuck in her belly button–we call it “plugging in.” I’m still not sure if it’s better than having a thumb-sucker.

    • She loves to do whatever Brandon is doing, very much an annoying little sister at times but they are becoming sweet little pals. I keep telling him how lucky he is to have an automatic friend who is here all the time!

    • Annie turns everything into a phone, and “chats” while she walks around the room.

    • Gives awesome kisses and hugs.

    • When she wakes up in the morning she’s always happy and smiling with huge hair–we call it her morning afro. Then she likes to run and roll around her crib before we get her out.

    • Ah, our “Little Miss Messy.” She has definitely earned the nickname and lives up to it on a daily, even hourly basis. She dumps EVERYTHING out, pulls out every toy in the house, loves to get into things, pulls out the toilet paper, you get the picture.

    • Loves to eat fruit, milk, yogurt, waffles and pancakes, mac n’ cheese, noodles, peas and corn, etc.–and she has to feed herself. She’s gotten pretty good with the fork and spoon and is very insistent at times that she does it by herself.

    • LOVES bathtime. When I even mention a bath she hurries as fast as she can up to the tub, starts taking off clothes and tries to climb in. And she hates getting out when it’s over.

    • Annie will bring books to us, back up, and then plop herself into our laps for some reading time.

    • It’s hilarious watching her try to run to keep up with Brandon. She’s a clutz. Just like her mommy. :)I hope she grows out of it, because I never did!

    • Annie brings us little “surprises” from around the house–crayons, blocks, tissue, shoes, books, whatever. She brings us things and creates little piles in our lap.

    • She says quite a few words–my favorites are when she says “silly” when she’s being funny, and she says “pretty” when she combs her hair, and she shouts “outside” while hanging on the doorknob to go play outside. All in her cute little low alto voice. :)

    • She sings “Row Row Row” in that same low voice. It’s so cute.

    • Annie makes THE funniest faces. I think she takes after me, just ask my brothers.

    • She is so sweet with her dolls–she calls them her “babies” and will carry them around, feeding them bottles (as well as drinking some herself) and pats their backs saying “awwww”.

    • Has to have food in each hand–2 cookies, 2 crackers. Always eating. Or begging at the pantry or mooching off other people’s plates.

    • She blows kisses and often kisses her toys. She’ll line up her little Fisher Price animals and will give them smoochies.

    • She likes to color, making scribbles with crayons and markers (Color Wonder of course) before she dumps them all over the floor. Or tries to eat them.

    • One of the funniest things she does lately is shakes her head “no” whenever you ask her something that she doesn’t want to do. We’ll say, “Annie, let’s go get your jammies on!” and she’ll emphatically shake her curly head NO! It’s hilarious. Or if she doesn’t want to give you a kiss, she’ll shake that head and make it clear!!

    • Her tantrums and hissy fits are pretty entertaining too. She’ll kind of throw a toy and then spit and then sometimes she’ll throw herself onto the floor banging her arms and kicking her feet, and then tries to slide backwards on her tummy. Ahhh, a drama queen already.

    • I love it when she dances to music and claps and really gets into it. She “sings” in the car to the music.

    • Annie would probably spend all day in the swing outside. She loves to swing. And play in the sandbox.

  • I love her laugh. Especially when we’re all laughing and she’s just joins in even though she has no idea why. I love her laugh and her smiles and her dimples.

There is never a dull moment in our house, that’s for sure. Love you, Annie-cakes!

Annie sounds like the perfect child..doing everything they are supposed to do.

You are an incredible photographer. Is this a natural gift (yeah) and have you taken classes?

I was at the library today and saw those cute books and thought of your Little Miss Messy. I love the pictures you took, especially the one of her in her crib. So cute…later!

Okay, how cute is that picture of her in her crib? LOVE IT! Don’t you love blogging for the fact that it gets you to write about your children! For the most part I consider it my scrapbook/journal.

Just stumbled onto your site. Love your scrap pages and photos! Especially love the crib photo!

I agree with the other comments … I love the moments when we as moms grab for the camera in a “no no” moment :o) I do it all the time with my 18-month old … and how great you caught the expression on her face! perfect!
