Fever, cough, and general malaise

by Brooke on March 8, 2009

That describes our house the past several days. I like the phrase “general malaise,” I learned in nursing school that you can use it in so many situations. :) Anyway, we’ve had a little wave of sickness pass through our family this past week. It started out with Annie, with a fever Monday all day and night, but by Tuesday she was doing much better and was “perkier.” Haylie started getting feverish Monday night and was up most of the night for THREE NIGHTS STRAIGHT. Turns out she has an ear infection and tonsillitis. SAD! But she’s doing a bit better, still not 100% though. Brandon had fever/chills plus a cough Friday and Saturday and a little bit today, but he’s doing better tonight.

Since I was up pretty much all of those three nights with Haylie (with Jaden’s help, of course) I got sick too. Thanks to my mom for a few dinners and coming over so I could take a little nap mid-week, and thank goodness the power went out at Jaden’s work so he got to come home at noon on Friday (tender mercies from Heavenly Father!!) so we are all still in one piece and slowly on the mend. :) And thankfully the Girl Scouts delivered our cookies, perfect timing, ha ha! So far, knock on wood, Jaden is the only one who didn’t get sick. Although he’s asleep on the couch right now.

So that’s what we’ve been up to. And that is why i have been MIA on the ol’ bloggie and internets.

Some thoughts:

*Daylight Savings always messes kids’ schedules up.

*I love Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies.

*We have gone through 50 billion boxes of tissue. Keeping Kleenex in business, that’s our slogan.

*I got a new calling–no worries, I’m still the organist and will be for LIFE, I’m sure. So I’ll also be a Relief Society teacher. And frankly, I’m a bit terrified. Brooke J will have to hold my hand through the whole thing. :)

*There are some WEIRD little games on Wii Play. And I am good at NONE of them. I don’t think video games were made for Moms. You have to have a somewhat healthy self-esteem when your almost 6 year old is WAY better than you and taught himself in 30 seconds.

*I have started couponing (I have some expert friends–holla to my thrifty sistas!) and while I shake with nervousness in my car in the parking lot of the grocery store with my lists and coupons in hand and pray for a nice cashier (kidding but kind of telling the truth) I have saved some good money the last few times! I can see an obsession coming on.

*I don’t know why but sometimes my inner G-Funk comes to the surface and I have to whip out my slang, yo dawg, check it out check it out Randy Jackson, like 150 percent, it was just okay for me, ‘aight.

*I like to tell Jaden about all the good deals I’ve found. He is a good husband and even acts interested. Probably because he likes saving money too.

*Brandon’s Parent/Teacher Conference went really well! We love his teacher.

*I really don’t like posting on the blog without a photo or two or fifty, but I’m on my laptop which has zero pictures on it. So just imagine in your heads how lovely I look after 3 nights of practically zero sleep.

Oh wait, THIS is what I look like:

And pardon my brain letting everything out onto one poor little blog post. Three cheers for a good sleep tonight!

WAIT–Thanks everyone SO MUCH for the awesome and sweet comments about Haylie’s little contest! :) :) :)

We might as well hook it up. I have had a fever from Tuesday til….umm…this morning. I have NOT loved this sick winter season. Hallelujah for the warm weather.

Thank you for that sneak peek into your head. Fascinating!

Congrats on your new calling. You’ll do great. I hope everyone’s on the mend. I hate the sickies. It was great to visit with you on Saturday.

Augh! Sorry about the sickies….we’re suffering too. I am having a coupon-education from my SIL this week and I am more afraid of the impatient people that me be behind me in line while I pass out all the coupons. I wish you luck and strength in your couponing endeavors.

I teach in Relief Society too. Yesterday was my first day… I was so nervous! I’m like the youngest one in there and I thought what life lessons are they going to learn from me? I hope that your the same week as me so we can share ideas on the lesson. I teach the 2 week.

I’m sorry to hear you all haven’t been feeling well. It is miserable when it cycles through your house like that. I hope you’re all on the mend now. Your posts always make me laugh, you’re such a funny girl. I’m excited to hear your RS lessons. I hope I’m not teaching Primary the week you’re teaching. Let me know what weeks you’ll be teaching and maybe I can switch some things around with my team teacher.

You will LOVE teaching Relief Society. When I begged for a calling in addition to “eternal organist” a couple of years ago, that’s the calling I got, and I loved it! I only taught for about a year, and then they put me in the RS Presidency, so beware! Just kidding. I actually loved both of those callings, but teaching was my favorite! Good luck! And I hope you all get better soon. That is no fun.

Brooke!!!! So, I can’t believe you just started couponing too! Honestly, we are meant to be best friends! LOL. Dan won’t give me the praise that I need though. I walk in with four huge bags of stuff and say, “How much do you think I got all this stuff for?” Then he says…”10 cents?” I want to kill him!!! Anyway, you need to post some of your deals.

FYI you should keep up on http://www.goodorfreedeals.blogspot.com. This girl used to live in St. George, and she is REALLY good at couponing. She posted that diaper deal like 2 weeks ago. So, I had a lot of time to prepare!

Good luck. DAWG!

What the heck is that picture??? Seriously it is so freaky. I love it – if you don’t mind maybe I’ll use it as my facebook profile pic! j/k

I too love the term “general malaise”. Such a good all around describing phrase. And, RS instructor was one of my favorite callings! You’ll be fab!! Talk to you later.

PS We’re still recovering from daylight savings!
