Brandon’s Birthday!

This is a long Brandon-themed blog today. Our little birthday boy is FOUR years old today! It’s amazing how quickly the time has gone. From a tiny little baby to a smart, active, delightful, independent person in a matter of minutes, I swear. I thought I’d write down some of the things Brandon likes to do, some of his favorite things–a snapshot of life at the age of four.

Brandon has turned into sort of an early bird. He’ll come into our room sometimes before the sun has even come up and I’ll say, “Why did you wake up so early???” He’ll always say very logical things like”Because I woked up!” or “Because my eyes opened!” or “Because the sun is coming up!” Sometimes he’ll climb into our bed so I can get a few more seconds of sleep but usually he is ready to start the day. He’s a breakfast boy–I’d say he eats the most at this meal. Lately he’s been having three bowls of cheerios, and that is what he specifically requests–THREE bowls while holding up three fingers to show me. And of course his beloved strawberry milk.

He confirmed to me today that his favorite letter has indeed changed to “C” instead of “B”. He recently changed his favorite color from yellow to red and today it is blue. When I asked why he had a different favorite color, he simply replied, “I just changed my mind.” Again, with the logical answers! :) His favorite number is now 4, for obvious reasons.

Brandon has become more and more independent and can pretty much do everything himself. I love to see what kinds of combinations he’ll come up with for what clothes he’ll be wearing that day. He loves to color and draw and is really quite good at it. He likes to come up with things for Jaden and I (or anyone who will listen!) to draw so he can color them–and we CANNOT draw worth anything! It’s hilarious the things we end up creating. Like the kids from Little Einsteins or an anaconda or Brandon and Annie in the tub or Jaden’s work or his choo-choo blanket. A variety of pieces of art. I’m always scared of what he’ll make me attempt to draw next!

Brandon loves trains and anything having to do with the movie CARS–in fact his birthday party theme for tonight is CARS. He loves to read books and has memorized some of his favorites so he kind of “reads” along with us. He’s into volcanoes lately and loves Jaden to read him this little pamphlet we brought back from Costa Rica where we visited a real volcano. Aunt Amy taught him the difference between “dormant” and “active” ones. Our little nerd–so funny!! :) Kidding. In fact, last Sunday before church I was asking him what he thought he’d learn in Primary that day. He said, “Probably about volcanoes. . .and Jesus.” Ha ha. Loves music of all different kinds–I think right now one of his favorites is “Maple Leaf Rag” by Scott Joplin. He likes to run around and dance with Annie. Brandon can actually carry a tune, and it’s so funny to hear him singing in the backseat of the car–he sings like a whole octave higher than the actual song. It’s so cute. :) He loves to GO GO GO. Now that it’s getting warmer he loves to play outside, in the sandbox or playhouse or playground, riding his bike, etc. He loves school. He loves his little sister. He loves his family. He told me a few weeks ago that he wants to be an astronaut when he grows up, or maybe a doctor or a fireman or a few other things I can’t remember. Then he said, “I guess I can be anything that I want to be.” So true. He’s a happy, fun and energetic boy–I think we’ll keep him. 😉

Well, that’s all I will write at the moment. There are so many things that make him special that I can’t possible write it all down. We love him so much and are so grateful he is OURS! Happy Birthday, buddy!
