Weekend Hike

by Brooke on July 17, 2007

This weekend we went on a fun hike with some friends. It was a beautiful evening and felt so good to be up in the mountains instead of the 105 degree city! We went to Cecret Lake up at Alta in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Alta is one of our favorite ski resorts so it’s kind of strange to see it without snow…

Warning: Lots of pictures!! You can click on them to enlarge.

Brandon rock climbed (with the help of Wes) with his friend Jake (the 3 1/2 year old rock climbing pro!) and really liked it. Little nervous at first but then he wanted to do it again….and again….

Annie loves to collect rocks for some reason. Hmmmmm, so did I when I was a kid…..

Brandon and Jake had a blast running on the trail.

Cecret Lake–(when Annie finally stopped whining) Relaxing with a cold beverage!

Attemps at a family picture–it’s like pulling teeth to get the kids to cooperate. Especially Annie. Thanks for trying, Ash!

Brandon was covered with a layer of dirt and sweat. Is he a boy or what?!??

We were able to see about 4 moose! One of the highlights of the hike. On the way down we were SO CLOSE to this huge moose. It was amazing! The kids were all standing there trying to make moose noises. I was a little worried it would charge us….and it was blocking the trail so we had to take a different route. Quite a view. I didn’t use my zoom lens, so the moose was really this close to us.

Little friends, Brielle and Annie, with their bags of snacks, of course.

I hope we can do that one again soon. Such a pretty setting!! On the way home we all tried to do our best moose noises (I think mine was the best–ha ha) and threw two dirty little kids into the shower ASAP.

Okay. Mostly, I am just jealous. I feel like such a dud on a log when I read your posts. Who goes on as many outings as you? Then I have to see you doing the “family-ride-the-bike” thing. You amaze me. You know sometimes when you see a commercial with adults, BBQs, the sunset and tiki torches and you wonder…when will that be me again? Freedom? That is how I felt when I saw you in the mountains with the sunset and the lake…with that setting who needs tiki torches? I am just saying, that looks like fun. I too hope to go again someday. SMILE!
