Yay and Boo–March 2010 edition

by Brooke on March 26, 2010

Yay: Brandon had his 7th birthday last week (post coming soon). It was lots of fun and we had a blast with our families to celebrate his big day.
Boo: It snowed on his birthday. But I guess it turned into a Yay because he still rode his brand new bike out in the blizzard before school.
Boo: My baby boy is SEVEN!!!

Yay: My daffodils are out in full beautiful force. Our garden plot is turned and manured (that’s a fun word) and ready for us to plant some lettuce, carrots and peas and beans.
Boo: There is a thin layer of snow and hail covering the ground today. SPRING, WE ARE READY FOR YOU!!! PLEASE COME AND STAY AWHILE!

Yay: I am loving working out to Jillian Michael’s DVD “30 Day Shred”.
Boo: I am hating working out to Jillian Michael’s DVD “30 Day Shred”.
Yay: But I really am loving it. I’ve never said that about working out, I don’t think. It’s a good one for me because it’s only 25 minutes. Short but intense. Just like me. (Wha……??)

Boo: Jaden played nearly every night last week in our high school’s Alumni Basketball Tournament. Which was fine and fun, but then they lost and he tweaked his knee and that made me nervous.
Yay: It was fun to visit/have a mini-reunion with the other wives in between chasing children off of the court–shout out to Tiffany, Marti, Erica and Carrie (for a few minutes).   :)

Yay: We have a new-ish family favorite dinner recipe–Homemade Pizza Rolls. They are easy to make (I have my own bread/pizza dough recipe that I make weekly) and Haylie, my picky picky picky eater, actually will eat one herself. Which is saying a lot. They are yummy and easy.
Boo: So I was making these for dinner last night. The dough was not cooperating for some reason, they looked like blobs of lard on the cookie sheet. Plus, I was upset about something Haylie had done (you’ll know what she did when you read to the end of this post). Then the pizza rolls look longer to cook. Then when they came out of the oven, for some reason they were superglued to the parchment paper and I had to gnaw/scrape/tear the poor pizza rolls off. I have made these before, people, and they totally worked. And then at this same time my Visiting Teachers came so I threw the pizza rolls at the kids (not literally) while still peeling parchment remains off the bottoms of the rolls (literally) and then my kids decided to be wild hooligans in front of my VT’s. I mean, they were being themselves, but even wilder and even more hooliganish. And then our friends came by to use our scanner and they saw our insanely-messy-piles-galore-unorganized office of death. And then we had to kill them (not literally). So, that was my “Boo” hour.
Yay: The pizza rolls still did taste yummy, even with the added spice of parchment paper. And my VT’s were sweet. And our friends understood and dare I say even enjoyed our messy office. So, it wasn’t so bad after all. And it was kind of a funny story to tell later on. :)

Boo: Haylie hasn’t been wanting to take naps.
Yay: Yesterday I sat and rocked her to sleep. It only took 5 minutes, but it honestly was lovely to snuggle my baby (toddler!) and relax and think about how lucky I am to be a mom.
Boo: Haylie is still awake right now and won’t nap again today. She is up there singing Twinkle Twinkle.

Boo: American Idol is sort of driving me crazy this season. Not in a good way. The judges make me batty–especially Randy. I seriously think that his entire vocabulary consists of these few words/phrases: Yo. So check it out. Dawg. It was just ‘aight for me. That was HOT! Wrong song choice, for me for you. Pitchy. His opinion is worthless to me (that last sentence is ME talking, not Randy). The contestants are not as good as they’ve been in the past. I’m just not diggin’ it, dawgs. Where’s my Kelly Clarkson and David Cook and David Archuleta? Or Daughtry or Carrie? I do like Big Mike or whatever his name is though. Especially his rendition of “This Women’s Work.”
Yay: I’m still loving my faves and am thankful for DVR. The Office. Chuck. Lost (even though it drives me crazy I still love it). Community. Funny stuff right there. And we like to watch our “Arrested Development” DVD’s.

Yay: Annie is really wanting to learn to read. It’s really cute.
Boo: Since when is Annie old enough to want to know how to read?? Why are ALL of my babies growing up so fast?!?!?!?

Boo: Haylie ripped off half the keys on my laptop.
Boo: Um I can’t think of anything happy about that. My spacebar, enter, shift key, and backspace are a hot mess. We have computer issues galore.

Yay: Haylie’s birthday is next Thursday. She’s hilarious and darling.
Boo: Haylie’s 2nd birthday is next Thursday. Hence the “fun” part of toddlerhood has begun. :) Hence, the terrorizing of my laptop. And welcome to crazy screaming and taking-off-of-diaper-at-every-possible-moment and all that jazz.
Boo: Again, my baby is turning TWO!! What? When? How?

So the moral to this story? There are good things and not-so-good things that happen every day. I’m really trying to remember that the good generally does outweigh the bad! :) It’s true.

What are your “Yays” and “Boos”???

Yay: Your post made me totally smile today. And it's sunny here in TX- no humidity yet so we are enjoying every moment!
Boo: Babies are growing up too fast- min is almost 1! AI is different this year & Randy's limited vocabulary IS annoying. He has nothing constructive or insightful to say.
Yay: It's Friday! XOXO

Loved your Yays and Boos. We all have those don't we?

Yay, that I finally saw daffodils on the way to Mary's preschool!

Boo that I STILL see remnants of Winter (read…giant ice piles) in some parking lots.

Ha…you'd think I lived in Ski Utah or something! LOL

Hope all is going well,

Boo: I haven't and don't want to. I think I am running out of steam for the routine. I need summer. Now.

Yay for the update on your family, cute post. I'm booing the weather too, why can't it just stay spring? My oldest turned 7 a few months ago and my baby turn two in May, it's so hard to see them grow so fast, you want them to stay babies, but it's fun to see them grow too :)

I love your yays and boos. I'm laughing at how well you summed up Randy's comments on AI. You've got him pegged!
